As we enter Week 9 of the College Baseball season, we take a look back at how Rays alum fared during the past week. One alum became a conference record holder while other turned in standout performance at the dish and on the mound. Here are some highlights from the past week in College Baseball.
UW-LaCrosse senior JACK OLVER set the WIAC record for most doubles in a career. Olver doubled against UW-Whitewater, one of three on the weekend, to bring his career total to 67. That UW-LaCrosse vs. UW-Whitewater series was one of the most anticipated weekend sets in recent history as it featured two of the top Division III programs in the nation. Whitewater, ranked No. 1 and LaCrosse entered the weekend No. 8.
Whitewater captured the series 3-1 behind ELIJAH FRANK’s eight hit, three home run weekend. Frank drove in eight and now has seven homers on the season. DOMINIK McVAY belted two home runs, bringing his season total to three. BRADY MALKOW earned his first win going 1.2 innings with two strikeouts on Sunday. On the other side of the diamond, ANTHONY VIVIAN collected six hits, including a home run. CAM DuPONT also hit a homer for the Eagles.
Mid-week, DAELEN JOHNSON earned the win, going five innings of one-hit ball with four strikeouts for LaCrosse.
ASHTON MICHEK got his fifth win of the season after going six innings, scattering three hits with six strikeouts for Augustana. Michek is now 5-2 with a 3.63 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 44.2 innings.
CAL FISHER knocked out three hits, including his fourth homer of the season as Florida State swept Virginia Tech.
AARON RICE went eight innings of four-hit ball with no earned runs and eight strikeouts for Utah Valley against UNLV. Rice has allowed only one run in his last 16.2 innings of work.
Madison College finished the week 7-1, including six-straight wins. MARCELINO EDISON ALONSO extended his hitting streak to seven games, including two homers and eight RBI. NOAH MARSCHKE earned his second win of the season after going seven innings, allowing four hits and no earned runs while striking out 14. QUINN FALISH also picked up a win on the mound, going 4.2 innings with three strikeouts. Falish is now 3-0 with a .82 ERA on the season. NATE NOVINSKA picked up his sixth homer of the season and is now batting .319 on the year. NICK WEST turned in a four inning performance to earn a win, while TRACE KIRCHBERG hit his first homer of the season.
EVAN GUSTAFSON and DAVIS HAMILTON each homered for North Dakota State over the weekend. Gustafson drove in three, while Hamilton also drove in three and stole two bases. JAKE SCHAFFNER ran his hitting streak to 12 games after collecting a double and a triple while stealing four bases. On the other side of the diamond, BRIGS RICHARTZ hit a go-ahead Grand Slam for St Thomas, his second homer of the year.
BRADEN SMITH ran his season record to 5-1 after an eight innings, six-hit performance for Maryville. Smith struck out seven and now has 57 strikeouts in 50 innings on the season.
TATE SCHMIDT hit his second homer of the season for Milwaukee at Iowa. Schmidt went 4-for-7 over the weekend as the Panthers took two-of-three vs Oakland. THOMAS OTTO went 4-for-7 and belted his fifth homer of the year. JUSTIN HAUSSER had five hits that included a double and a triple.
NOAH WECH threw 4.2 innings over three appearances for Oklahoma State. Wech struck out four.
LIAM MORENO extended his hitting streak to nine games out of the leadoff spot for St. Cloud State. Moreno went 10-for-25 with his sixth homer of the season to go along with four doubles and eight RBI.
LOGAN DUNN had five hits, including a double, triple, two runs scored and five RBI for Missouri State.
JACKSON ADAMS had five hits, five runs scored and five RBI for UW-Stevens Point, while MASON FINK went 3-for-10 with a double and an RBI.
MASON KIRCHBERG had eight hits, including four doubles to go along with three RBI and three runs scored for UW-Oshkosh.
