The past week featured two former Rays getting the call of a lifetime as Drake Baldwin (Atlanta Braves) and ALAN RODEN (Toronto Blue Jays) received news that they have made the Major League Opening Day roster for both clubs, respectively. In college baseball, Rays alums continued with the high level of play as conference olay started for some schools. Here are some highlights from the past week for Rays alums.
DRAKE BALDWIN, the Atlanta Braves No. 1 prospect has been named to the Big League roster and is slated to be the Opening Day starter behind the dish. Baldwin was the Braves Minor League Player of the Year a season ago, and had a standout Spring Training, earning a spot on the roster.
ALAN RODEN had a lights out Spring Training for the Blue Jays, hitting over .400 with an OPS over 1.3000. Roden was also named Minor League Player of the Year last year for the Blue Jays organization. Roden earned a spot in the outfield for the Jays on the Major League Opening Day roster for his bat-to-ball skills and advance plate awareness.
Both Baldwin and Roden were selected two picks apart in the 3rd round of the 2022 MLB Draft.
ASHTON MICHECK went six innings to pick up the win for Augustana over Minnesota-Crookston. Micheck scattered six hits while striking out seven. On the season, Michek has 34 strike outs in 26.2 innings with a 3-1 record.
JOEY NERAT had multiple hits in three of the four games Dallas Baptist played this week to bring his season average to .361. Nerat went 9-for-15 with a homer, seven RBIs and three runs scored.
CAL McGINNIS ran his hitting streak to nine games after going 7-for-17 for Evansville this past week. McGinnis had two doubles, five RBIs and six runs scored. The Evansville senior is batting .359 on the season.
COLE SELVIG was lights out for Minnesota in the Gophers’ win over High Point. Selvig went six innings, striking out six, while scattering four hits and allowing a lone earned run.
GABE ROESSLER extended his hitting streak to eight games for Milwaukee. Roessler hit a leadoff homer on Friday, his fifth homer of the season. The Panther senior has scored a run in 11-straight games. Fellow Rays alum TATE SCHMIDT had multiple hits in three of the four games over the past week. Schmidt went 6-for-16 with seven runs scored and four walks and is hitting .344 on the season. JUSTIN HAUSSER hit and inside-that-park homer, while THOMAS OTTO drilled one over the elft field fence for his second homer of the season.
JAKE SCHAFFNER collected multiple hits and a double in all three games over the past weekend for North Dakota State at Northern Colorado. Schaffner scored four runs and walked three times and is now hitting .371 for the year. DAVIS HAMILTON went 3-for-9 with an RBI and two runs scored.
SAM MOMMER turned in a gem on the mound for UW-Parkside in their win over No. 20 Grand Valley State. Mommer went seven innings, allowing onlt three hits and a lone earned run. The freshman righty struck out six. Mommer is 4-1 with a 2.73 ERA on the season.
LIAM MORENO had hits in all St. Cloud State games over the past week. Moreno had five hits and scored twice and is how hitting .359 on the year.
UW-La Crosse has started 6-0 on their Spring trip with several Rays making an impact. CHAYCE OSTERHAUS (W, 5 IP, 6 K). JACK OLVER (8 H, 8 R, 9 RBI, HR), ANTHONY VIVIAN (5 H, 7 R, 2B, 4 BB), CAM DUPONT (5-for-7, 3 RBI), ANDREW RAJKOVICH (6 H, 6 R, 2B, 3B), DAELEN JOHNSON (2 IP, 0.00 ERA).
BRIGS RICHARTZ had four hits for St. Thomas in their 2-2 week. Richartz scored four runs and had a double and a triple.
TIAGO SANCHEZ earned the win for Morningside after going five innings, allowing four hits and a lone earned run. Sanchez struck out eight and has 21 innings pitched, 12 hits allowed and 31 strikeouts on the season.
JACK DeTIENNE earned the win after pitching a scoreless ninth for Xavier over Ball State. DeTienne had a strikeout and has three stikeouts in his last 1.2 innings pitched.

JUSTIN GORSKI had two hits in two games for Miami (OHO) this past week. Gorski also scored a run, walked and stole a base.
