Week 4 of the College Baseball season is in the rear-view mirror and was another week where former Rays players had standout performances at the plate and on the mound. Here are some highlights from the past week from Rays alums.
CAL FISHER helped Florida State stay undefeated on the season going 6-for-10 over the week. Fisher had five extra base hits, including two homers against Lipscomb. One of the homers was a Grand Slam. The Seminole sophomore totaled six RBIs and is now hitting .370 on the season.
Sophomore righty BRADEN SMITH threw a complete game allowing one earned run vs. Hillsdale. Smith struck out seven allowing a lone earned run. On the year Smith has a 1.74 ERA and has 25 strike outs in 20 innings pitched for Maryville.
A pair of former Rays pace North Dakota State at the plate with JAKE SCHAFFNER (5-for-14) and DAVIS HAMILTON (6-for-14). Schaffner scored four runs and added a triple, and RBI and two walks. Hamilton also tallied a triple and scored six runs tog o along with five walks and three stolen bases. Hamilton is hitting .333 on the year while Schaffner is batting .377.
UW-Oshkosh JOSH JANSEN struck out 11 batters in seven innings in Florida against St. Mary’s. Jansen now is up to 19 strikeouts in 12.1 innings pitched for the Titans.
Dallas Baptist junior JOEY NERAT hit his second homer of the season at Louisiana. Nerat had four hits, a run scored and a walk as he is now hitting .353 on the year.
Milwaukee freshman TATE SCHMIDT popped his first homer of his career at Kansas. Schmidt is hitting .333 on the season after going 4-for-9 with five walks, six runs scored and an RBI. Fellow Rays alum GABE ROESSLER also hit a homer and added two doubles for the Panthers.
ASHTON MICHEK went five innings for Augustana, earning the win allowing only two hits. vs. Bemidji State. Michek struck out eight in the win. For the year, Michek has 25 strikeouts in 17 innings pitched.
ANGEL RADES was the GLIAC Player of the Week for UW-Parkside as the Rangers improved to 13-1 on the season. Rades went 7-for-8 with four doubles, five RBIs and five walks and is now hitting .472 on the season. Fellow Rays alum SAM MOMMER hit a homer for his first collegiate hit. Mommer also went five innings on the mound striking out five while allowing only two hits. For the year, Mommer is 3-0 with a 1.50 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 18 innings.
NOAH DREIER went 7-for-11 with three doubles and five RBIs for Saint Xavier. Dreier is now hitting .381 on the season.
JOSH STEGER made his collegiate debut for UW-Stevens Point. Steger went three innings with a strikeout against Washington University (MO.)
Clarke right-hander CARSON POSSEHL went five innings, scattering three hits and striking out two as he took a tough-luck loss against Graceland.
LIAM MORENO went 5-for-9 for St. Cloud State and is not hitting .422 on the year for the Huskies.
UW-La Crosse headed West to open up their season in California. ANTHONY VIVIAN picked up with the power where he left off last season hitting a home run, his 38th career homer. Vivian had six RBIs, four walks and a double. Fellow Rays alum ANDREW RAJKOVICH had four hits, two doubles, two RBIs, two walks and two stolen bases. CHAYCE OSTERHAUS went five innings on the mound, allowing a lone earned run with two strikeouts for the Eagles.
MAX KALK went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI for Ball State against Florida A&M.
DOMINIC KIBLER hit his second homer of the season for Kent State.
JACKSON HUNLEY hit a Grand Slam as part of a two-hit, five RBI day for Lewis.
Madison College opened the season with a powerful win over DMACC. EDISON ALONSO went 4-for-5 at the dish with two runs and two RBIs, while NICK WEST and CARTER LUND each had clean innings with two strike outs apiece on the mound.
CADEN CAPOMACCIO threw 4.2 innings allowing a lone hit and two strikeouts for Minnesota against Purdue. Freshman righty ADAM URBAN made his collegiate debut and picked up a strikeout.
