Week 1 of the college baseball season is in the books and was one that featured several standout performances from former Rays players as they took the diamond for the first time in 2024. Below are some highlights from former Rays players this week.

For his performance over the weekend at Oral Roberts, Evansville infielder CAL McGinnis was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week. McGinnis went 6-for-13 with a homer, two doubles a triple, five RBIs and five runs scored in the Aces series win.

Florida State freshman CAL FISHER homered in his first collegiate at bat for the Seminoles. Fisher finished 1-for-2 on the weekend.

Valparaiso RHP JOSH COTTRILL twirled a gem against Alabama State. Cottrill went six inning, scattering four hits while allowing a lone earned run while striking out seven.

Minnesota RHP WILL SEMB tossed a gem in the desert for the Gophers in their win over New Mexico. Semb went five innings, allowing only three hits, an earned run with seven strikeouts, while running his fastball up to the plate at 92-96 MPH. Teammate and fellow Rays alum CADEN CAPOMACCIO struck out all three batters he faced against Oregon State.

BRIG RICHARTZ went 8-for-17 with a home, a triple, three runs scored and seven RBI for St. Thomas.

Texas Tech junior OWEN WASHBURN went 6-for-12, collecting two hits in all three games for the Red Raiders at Globe Life Park in Texas. Washburn scored three runs on the weekend.

DOM KIBLER made his collegiate debut for Kent State as the freshman netted two doubles to go along with an RBI and a run scored for the Golden Flashes.

REECE LAWLER made his debut for Illinois-Chicago, making two appearances for a combined 2.1 innings, allowing three hits, an earned run and a strikeout.

Tulane infielder MARCUS CLINE made his debut for the Green Wave, going 3-for-11 with an RBI.

DYLAN O’CONNELL went 5-for-13 with a double and three runs scored for Western Kentucky.

Xavier senior MATTHEW DePREY went 2-for-9 for the Musketeers in their series at Clemson.

ADRIAN MONTILVA threw 5 innings of four-hit ball with three earned runs and four strikeouts for Milwaukee.

Nebraska junior backstop JOSH CARON went 3-for-10 for the Cornhuskers opening weekend at Globe Life Park in Texas.

CUYLER ZUKOWSKI collected his first collegiate hit in Creighton’s weekend sweep.

MAX KALK earned his first collegiate start for Ball State behind the dish.

Miami (OH) freshman JUSTIN GORSKI made his collegiate debut.

Michigan State infielder LANDEN LOZIER made his collegiate debut for the Spartans getting hit by a pitch.

CALEB KARLL garnered his first career start for Ohio, going 0-for-2 in the DH spot.
